Saturday, July 27th– Santa Barbara, CA

Departure day!

All twelve of the travelers leaving from Santa Barbara gathered at Janet’s house on Saturday morning, along with our families and World Dance friends. The excitement in the air was infectious! It was hard to believe the adventure we had been anticipating for so long was finally beginning.

Our departing SB group included: Amy, Don, Erin, Genevieve, Grant, Heather, Janet, Jayne, Jojo, Kathleen, Linda, and Michelle.

After a mean game of luggage tetris in the back of the van, we somehow fit all 24 of our full-sized suitcases, which were filled to the brim with donations for our communities (water filters, reusable menstrual pads, toothbrushes, school supplies, and so much more!).

One by one, we piled into the van, bidding farewell to the wonderful group of people seeing us off. We pulled out of Janet’s driveway, gave one more wave goodbye, and headed south to LAX.

Our driver, Stanley, treated us to a gorgeous drive down the beautiful Highway 1 so we could take in a few last breaths of the coastal air before traveling 9,000 miles across the world, and into the heart of Africa.

We arrived safely at the Tom Bradley International Terminal, where we were joined by fellow travelers Nicole and Tammy. By some miracle, we managed to check all of our luggage and get through security without a single hitch, and together made our way to the gate.

Next stop...Doha, Qatar!

Note: Please excuse any delays in blog posts. We have arrived safely in Rwanda, but have limited internet here. More posts coming soon!

Thank you for following our journey!
